About Microneedling

When home skin products aren't effective but you aren't ready for surgery, learn more about nonsurgical and minimally invasive treatments to rejuvenate the skin like microneedling. Microneedling uses several fine-gauge needles to safely and effectively create micro-injuries in the needed areas of the skin. The micro-injuries trigger the body's natural production of collagen and elastin, two nutrients that enhance the appearance and health of the skin. Schedule a consultation at Artisan 57 to hear more about the benefits of microneedling and ways to customize the treatment for your needs and goals.

Collagen Induction Therapy

Collagen induction therapy (CIT) is an FDA-approved facial rejuvenation treatment designed to help renew lost collagen. This minimally invasive procedure, using a 0.5 mm – 1.5 mm needle in length and a 32-gauge width on a handheld device (with a circular motion on the skin), will permit a comfortable experience. Tiny holes are made into the skin to trigger the release of fibroblasts, which become new collagen fibers. This is how your skin looks more vibrant and refreshed, and no visible damage will occur from the micro-injuries.

CIT with PRP Therapy

Platelet-Rich Plasma therapy (PRP) can enhance the microneedling experience by using a vial of your own blood. We will prepare the PRP after a quick blood draw and preparing in our lab (it is separated in a centrifuge). Your unique PRP contains 3 – 5 times more of the platelets and growth factors needed to produce a rejuvenating treatment, and it is very effective when applied to the skin after microneedling. Skin issues that can be improved via microneedling with PRP can include decreased visibility of wrinkles, scars, discoloration, large pores, and more. We can also use a peptide serum as an alternative to PRP after a microneedling treatment.

Ideal Candidates

You may benefit from microneedling if you have mild to moderate skin issues, like a decrease in elasticity or rough texture. Microneedling treatments can also minimize the appearance of pores, scars, and stretch marks. You must be willing to wait a while before seeing improvements from your microneedling treatment since the collagen and elastin will need some time to have an effect on the skin, but you will develop natural-looking results and healthier overall skin.

Treatment Technique

Microneedling is completed in a private treatment room in about 45 – 60 minutes with a topically applied numbing cream. Patients generally report mild or no discomfort. The skin being treated will be cleansed before the multi-needled handpiece is passed over the skin. After the microneedling is complete, a topical treatment like PRP or a vitamin-infused serum can be applied to the treated area for deeper penetration of the nutrients into the skin. A moisturizer will be applied along with UV protection since your skin will be sensitive after the treatment.

What to Expect

You may experience mild swelling and redness for about a day, but this should fade naturally. It may take about 1 – 2 months as the collagen and elastin levels increase before you see visible improvements in the health and appearance of your complexion. You should plan to get about 4 – 6 maintenance treatments every 4 – 6 weeks for ideal results and long-lasting skin health.
