About Chemical Peels

Offering some of the best in chemical peel facial treatments, Artisan 57 provides patients with many options. We create customized chemical solutions with glycolic, salicylic, lactic, and trichloroacetic acids that give you healthier, smoother skin. Our board-certified ophthalmologist surgeon Dr. Alison Tendler advises chemical peel treatments to help to decrease skin abnormalities like wrinkles, fine lines, scars, rough patches, hyperpigmentation issues, and more. Chemical peels clear away dead, damaged skin cells, which cause the surface layer to peel off. As your skin heals and begins to rejuvenate and repair itself, you may notice a clearer, smoother complexion. A chemical peel treatment is a noninvasive technique to make your skin radiant and is used for both the neck and face.

Variations of Chemical Peels

At Artisan 57, we perform chemical peels at various levels of strength (light, medium, and deep) to meet our patients' skin care goals.

Illuminize Peel: You can have a light chemical peel during your lunchtime and return back to your day. This level of peel will remove the top skin layer (the epidermis), giving your face a brighter appearance and softer texture. We typically suggest that you receive a light chemical peel about once a month for continued glowing results.

Vitalize Peel: The Vitalize Peel at Artisan 57 reaches deeper into your skin, and you may prefer to plan to do this facial rejuvenation treatment over the weekend. Some patients experience a slight discomfort during the hour after the peel. Medium-depth peels are designed for patients who have damage to their skin including melasma, signs of aging, wrinkles, and pigmentation issues to correct.

Rejuvenize Peel: The most advanced of the three types of chemical peels is the Rejuvenize Peel, which will require the lengthiest recovery time. This rejuvenating procedure that can leave your face peeling for 4-6 days. Patients who get a deep peel typically have dark age spots, sun-damaged skin, or melasma.

Ideal Candidates

A member of our team at Artisan 57 can assess your skin before recommending an acidic solution that is right for your skin type and condition. Chemical peel candidates, both women and men, should have noticeable concerns on their skin including rough patches, hyperpigmentation, flaky skin, sun spots, fine lines, wrinkles, and much more. We may suggest varying strengths of chemical peels and other treatments to match your goals.

Treatment Technique

During your appointment at Artisan 57, we will have you seated in a relaxed position to administer your peel. We will make sure your skin is cleansed before applying the customized solution to your face, neck, or both. We will spread the solution onto your face and let it set for a specific amount of time, which will be discussed in your treatment planning session. Next, we will wash the solution off your face and apply a neutralizing agent to the skin. It will be very important to use a sunscreen and limit your time in the sun after a peel.

What to Expect

Depending on the strength of the peel you receive, you can expect the treated area to itch and peel a few days to a week. We will talk about ways to care for your skin during your procedure. Please keep in mind that no matter how much your skin itches during the recovery, it is never healthy to peel the skin off as you could cause scarring to your skin!
